Hart Partners was recently awarded $3500.00!
One of the programs that Hart Partners implements each year is the Friday Backpack program. The goal of the program is to provide shelf stable food for elementary school children who may face food challenges over the weekends when school is not in session. Data indicates that breakfast and lunches received by children on school days may be the only nutrition available to them until classes reconvene on Monday. The Backpack program works to bridge the gap.
Each Friday food bags are distributed to eligible children at each of the elementary schools. The bags contain easy to prepare snacks and food items for weekend breakfast and lunches.
The agency that had helped supply the food items informed our local officials that they would not be able to assist any longer due to their own funding issues. Other programs that were affected included Food for Kids and our Summer Bookmobile. Our agency was also adding additional food to the bags prior to this announcement. The entire Backpack program implementation was in jeopardy for the 2024-2025 school year.
The grant award from Hart EMC will cover the weekly cost of $500 for seven weeks toward the purchase of 100 food bags.
